Yummy Pancakes from Scratch
Short on time? Want your kids to make breakfast? Ran out of pancake mix? Pancakes are one of the most popular and versatile breakfast dishes in the world. They can be made with different types of flour, milk, eggs, and leavening agents, and topped with various sweet or savory sauces, fruits, nuts, or whipped cream. However, you don’t need to buy a boxed mix or go to a restaurant to enjoy fluffy and delicious pancakes. You can easily make them from scratch with some basic ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen. Making pancakes from scratch is not only cheaper and healthier, but also more fun and satisfying. You can customize the batter and the toppings to suit your taste and mood, and impress your family and friends with your homemade pancakes.
Equipment
- 1 griddle or stove an frying pan
- 1 mixing bowl
- 1 whisk
- 1 spatula
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 3 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp White Granulated Sugar
- 1 1/4 cup Milk (any kind)
- 1 Egg
- 3 tbsp Melted Butter
Optional
- 1 cup Powdered Protein optional
- 1 cup Chocolate Chips optional
- 1 cup favorite topping (fruit/butter/cookie butter/jam/syrup) optional after cooking (do not mix with batter)
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, add all the required ingredients
- Use a whisk (or large spoon) and mix them all together — it is ok to have some lumps. Do not overmix as you do not want the batter to be all smooth
- Once batter is mixed, you can add in any of the Optional ingredients (not toppings) and gently mix in
- Set aside the bowl to "rest" while you heat up your griddle or equivalent frying pan. Set the griddle to medium high
- After preheated, use a measuring cup (I like to use a cup) to scoop out the batter and pour onto the griddle. Make the pancakes as large as you like, but it usually about half a cup
- After the batter on the griddle starts to bubble, it's time to flip them
- Use a large spatula to flip the pancake on it's other side
- After you see the sides of the pancake look cooked, then flip them again and make sure both sides are a golden color. If not, then continue cooking each side until they are both golden
- Once the pancakes are cooked, you can serve hot on individual plates and add your favorite toppings
Notes
Tip:Â If you have unusually thick batter, then pour in a little bit of milk and stir the batter until it is a little more runny but not liquidy.
Tip: If your cooked pancakes are thick, you can use the spatula to ‘cut’ the middle of the pancake to make sure it is cooked all the way through. If you get batter on your spatula, it needs to be cooked a little longer.
